Surinsar Lake and Island With Thousand Bats

Surinsar and Mansar Lake are considered to be twin lakes. According to Hindu mythological legends, the origin of the lake is closely associated with the legendary warrior of Mahabharata, Arjun. It is said to believe that Arjun shot an arrow in to the Mansar and a spring gushed of the earth and now it is known as Surinsar Lake.

This beautiful piece of ocean is situated at a distance of 42 km from the city of temples, Jammu and located 30 km away from the Mansar Lake. The Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled in the midst of both the lakes and supports 3 mammalian species and 15 avifauna species including crane. Surinsar Lake is surrounded by thick mangroves, looming pine trees and beautiful hills. An island situated in the middle of this land is home to thousands of bats.

There is not much to do there but still this place is calm and amazing.

How to get there or Location of Surinsar Lake

We are not sure about the public vehicles so it’s better to travel via personal convenience. There are lots of view points on the way so personal vehicle would be a better choice.

  • Distance between Surinsar Lake and Jammu is 42 km.
  • Distance between Surinsar Lake and Mansar is 30 km.

Best Month: Between April to October.
Best Time: Between 4 pm to 6 pm.

What we have experienced?

This lake is a beautiful and peaceful place. The lake is a famous tourist spot. The lake, during summers, attracts a large number of tourists as it remains covered with blooming lotus flowers throughout the season. This place is worth to visit.
