Gulmarg is a hill station which is located in the Baramulla District of union territory Jammu and Kashmir in India. This town is situated in the Peer Panjal Range in the western Himalayas that is located at an altitude of around 2,650 meters or 8,690 ft. The name of the town Gulmarg was given by Sultan Yusuf Shah Chak which means ‘meadow of flowers’. During 16th century, Sultan Yusuf Shah Chak used to frequently visit this place with his wife Habba Khatoon and gave this name to this beautiful place. The original name of this place was Gauri Marg which means ‘Path of Devi’ and was later changed by Sultan Yusuf Shah Chak.
Gulmarg
Gulmarg is popularly known town in Srinagar. This place is one of the most visited places of Srinagar and one of the best tourist attraction. Gulmarg is surrounded by snow covered mountains, deep ravines and green forest valleys. It is also a popular skiing destination. People from all over the world visit Gulmarg in winters for skiing competition. It is also said that Gulmarg was favorite to Mughal Emperor Jahangir who had collected 21 wild flowers for his garden from here.

Cable Car (GANDOLA)
Gurlmarg have one of the highest cable car in the world that reaches 3,979 metres. This cable car was built by a French Company ‘Pomagalsk’. The first stage transfers passengers from Gulmarg at 2,600 metres to Kongdoori at 3,080 metres. The second stage which has 36 cabins and 18 towers, takes passengers at an altitude of 3,950 metres on the Apharwat Peak 4,200 metres.

Golf course
Golf course in Gulmarg is situated at an altitude of 2,650 m. This golf course is the highest green golf course in the world. In 1911, the British started golf course in Gulmarg to spend their holidays. As we go back to the late 19th century, Colonel Neville Chamberlain was the one who made 6-hole course in 1890-91 and made Gurmarg famous as a golfing center. In 1922, the first golf championship was played at Gulmarg. In 1929, the Nedou’s Cup was introduced.
Festivals
There’s an annual Gulmarg Winter Festival which is a three-day long festival and is held in March. Many artists from all over the world participates in the fields of music, films and photography to showcase their work during the festival.

The cable car of Gulmarg is an exciting experience for people who love adventure. This place is also a honeymoon destination.
